Swood is committed to environmental conservation, community development, and education based on the philosophy of “Connecting Thoughts."
For the benefit of society and local communities, we manufacture Japanese lumber strand boards using thinned lumber, develop custom-made building materials, and practice social contribution activities through Mokuiku (wood education) activities. In addition to utilizing local lumber and supporting upcycling of unused resources, we are also involved in the production of original goods and furniture and support for children's events.

Abacus Bead Shade
Most of the lighting fixtures we make are produced by hand, and we do not mass-produce them by machine. However, because of our handcrafting, we are able to create products that meet our customers' needs. In addition, wood deteriorates less over time than plastic and can be used for a long time.
Shinshu Karamatsu Furniture
Shinshu Karamatsu Furniture, a traditional craft designated by Nagano Prefecture, is made from larch wood produced in Nagano Prefecture, which has a clear, beautiful grain and soft texture. We deliver products with excellent design quality by using a technique to suppress twisting, which is considered a drawback of larch wood, and our unique technique to modify the knots so that they appear natural.

We continue to make products with the hope of expressing the charm of wood.
One of our main production methods is “sekiso-zukuri,” in which 0.3 to 3 mm thin sheets are stacked on top of each other to make laminated wood, which is then carved and shaved to create works of art.
The Venus in the photo is carved out of a laminated square block of wood. The process of carving with a chisel, in which a thousand different lines and shapes are formed from the laminated surfaces, is truly interesting.

Chair "bambi"
Bambi chair features a minimalist design consisting of a back, seat, and frame. The form is charming when viewed from the front and sharp from the back, creating a design that changes expression depending on the direction you look at it. With our “Roll Press Wood,” a technology that consolidates soft coniferous trees and applies it to molded plywood, we have realized light shapes that were previously unavailable with cedar lumber.
Easy Chair "Waist"
This easy chair is characterized by a light impression that has been unavailable in cedar wood furniture to date. Our proprietary “Roll Press Wood” technology has enabled us to create cedar furniture with a high level of design. The back panel is three-dimensionally curved to showcase the rich individual expression of cedar wood. The gentle curves comfortably support the body. The line of the arm that narrows around the seat is not only an aesthetic feature, but also creates a sense of spaciousness when you sit on it.
Wave-shaped “Bench” with attractive flowing curves
This bench features the wavy curves of molded plywood and the flowing grain of cedar wood. Since each person's space is easily recognizable, an appropriate distance to the next person can be naturally maintained, creating a healthy space. The wavy form also allows the body to sit comfortably, providing comfort that you would not expect from its appearance.

HOTTA.Co
Gunma Prefecture, located on the edge of the Kanto Plain, is surrounded by lush green mountains. We are working to create tools for playing in the field and for daily life using the trees we see when we look up at the sky.
We want to create a cycle in the local mountains. At the same time, we do not want the trees harvested from the mountains to be consumed by a single generation. Instead, we want to pass them on to the next generation, while taking care of them.
Our goal is to create a system that can sustain the circulation of lumber even in urban areas.
Product description
Custom wood board
We have been making our own playthings with our own hands for nearly 20 years, and it has become our business. We make tools that allow us to see the faces of the makers and users instead of mass-produced tools as industrial products. This production system is common in surfboards, where custom orders to suit the rider prevent overproduction and minimize environmental impact. We produce custom-made snowboards and skis for each and every rider believing that they should be made in the same style.
Thick study desks
Study desks made of thicker-than-usual materials, using unused large-diameter trees that were planted after World War II - Due to the thicker materials, they can be shaved to remove dirt. When the child grows up and outgrows the desk, they can be disassembled and reassembled into other tools, allowing the wood to continue to be used for generations to come.
Bokko Chair
The “Bokko (wooden stick)” series products that are made by recycling small-diameter wood, unused wood, and offcuts, which are not distributed in the market, as tools for daily life rather than throwing away - The “Bokko Chair” on display and for sale at this event is a folding chair made from scraps from the snowboard and ski manufacturing process and from the apparel industry.

Forestry Agency
We have been promoting the "Kizukai Campaign," a national initiative to raise awareness of the significance of using wood, to incorporate wood products into daily life, and to nurture Japan's forests.
We should "use" wood and "care" about mountains, forests, our daily lives, and the environment. Why don't you start working on “Kizukai” initiative starting from familiar things?
Product description
Using wood is connected to the forest
Using wood is a part of the cycle for planted forests: logging, using, planting, and nurturing. It is important to use wood to nurture the forests so that they can fulfill their many functions, such as absorbing carbon dioxide and protecting the land from disasters. By promoting the planting and nurturing of forests as well as the harvesting and use of planted forests, we can maintain a sustainable cycle of forests that will lead to the future.
What is "Wood Change"?
Wood-change refers to actions to create a sustainable society through the use of wood, such as "changing everyday items to wooden ones," "incorporating wood into daily life," and "building wooden and wood-based structures."

In order to properly maintain satoyama forests and roadside trees,
In order to properly maintain satoyama forests and roadside trees, it is important not only to manage them from the perspective of conservation, but also to create a cycle that includes the use of lumber.
Currently, many of the trees in satoyama and roadside trees are called “miscellaneous small trees” and have no value.
They are of poor quality and useless. In order to change such sense of value, we aim to create new value for “miscellaneous small trees” as furniture and interior materials. In addition, we intend to promote the regular harvesting of satoyama forests and their cyclical use as resources, just as firewood and charcoal production used to be done in the past.

Hazaikoubou
We produce wooden toys for the general public and products that can help promote the use of wood.
Each type of lumber has its own characteristics.
We believe that making products that make the most of the characteristics of each lumber is the quickest way to make people aware of the benefits and importance of wood.
It is important to use local lumber. However, if products are made solely from local lumber, they tend to use mainly coniferous trees and become monotonous.
By utilizing a variety of trees, we can make colorful products by taking advantage of the colors of the materials and create good products with characteristics that are competitive with other materials.
We believe that by having people use a wide variety of wooden products, they will discover the joy of wood and the good qualities of wood, which will in turn lead to the use of local lumber.
Product description
Colorful toys made from various types of trees
We produce wooden toys using mainly Japanese lumber and various woods from around the world. We do not use coloring, but use the natural colors of wood to create colorful products. We aim to create stylish products that can be displayed in your room even when they are not in use. We try to make products that are familiar to people, not high-end products.
Wooden educational toys to enjoy playing with and learning about various trees.
We use various tree species to make building blocks, gears, and miniature cars that can be connected with magnets. We try our best to include the names of tree species and illustrations of their leaves on our products so that children can learn about various trees while playing with them.
Tree Samples
We make various samples using actual trees as parts. For example, we produce a tree collection with the tree names in Kanji characters on the front along with the leaves and the tree names in hiragana characters on the back; a sample book where you can look at each tree like a notebook; plate samples that you can look at side by side; and samples that you can play with as building blocks.

Society to make use of the Santome wood
New Manufacturing Starts with the Bounty of Forests in Santome
Santome is a vegetable-growing region in western Saitama Prefecture. In this area, a recycling-oriented agriculture has been practiced since the Edo period, in which compost made from fallen leaves collected in the flatland forests is spread on farmland. This method has been recognized as a World Agricultural Heritage property. Flatland forests in Santome are the foundation of this agriculture, and at the same time, they have nurtured the region's beautiful natural scenery, history, and culture. We are working to make the best use of thinned lumber for the preservation of flatland forests in Santome.
